Quotes of the day... 12/31/14

On the eve of 2015...

Let's forgive ourselves for this year,
for all of our transgressions and seeming failures.
Because we are alive, they are all miracles for us.

Part of us is better for it, and “all of us”
is lovelier still, even for what we “thought” we failed…
even for those we felt we assailed…

We sang songs we did not even know
upon life’s wandering voyage.

We were brilliant not only once or twice, but many more.

These experiences have made us
more whole, and not less,
as we wonder endlessly about who we are.

Because ‘Who We Are’ is miraculous!
We are still here, another year older,
another moment more beautiful and aged,
and yet more youthful than ever before.

When we start to think the problem is out there,
we must stop ourselves!
That thought is the problem.
     ~adapted, Stephen Covey

If we do not see ourselves participating
in the manifestation of our realities,
we will always be victims and never creators.

Quotes of the day... 12/26/14

How did the rose ever open its heart
and give to this world all of its beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light against its being.
     ~ Hafiz

The more we give, the more we get.

The fewer grievances we have,
the more miracles we can have.
The best way to prepare for the new year
is to try to forgive everyone and everything.

♥ Merry Christmas! ♥

“It is a miracle if you can find true friends,
and it is a miracle if you have enough food to eat,
and it is a miracle if you get to spend your days and evenings
doing whatever it is you like to do, and the holiday season -
like all the other seasons - is a good time
not only to tell stories of miracles,
but to think about the miracles in your own life,
and to be grateful for them,
and that's the end of this particular story.”
     ~ Lemony Snicket

“God bless us, every one!”
~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Merry Christmas to all!
I wish you health, wealth,
love, friendship, and happiness ♥

Mia, "I kind of like living in this world."

A letter to Humanity! ~ adapted, Stephen Russell, The Barefoot Doctor

Dear Humanity, things look messy I know, but while you're still here, you're still in the game, and contrary to appearances it's likely all this could be sorted by a simple change of mental air, a new way of seeing, and a willingness to communicate with yourself, to start making friends with yourself again, for all your parts to start making friends with each other again – and it could happen, Humanity, with enough will it could happen – all it needs is for you to love yourself a bit more – love all your bits, let all your bits feel that love and start loving all the other bits and bit by bit, before you know it, you could be back on your feet, with a whole new outlook, approach and atmosphere, and having the time of your life.

And from one of Humanity's bits to another, I say it starts with you and it starts with me – it starts by us allowing ourselves to love being alive even more, and radiating that love, letting it spread like a contagion until it infects every bit of humanity there is.

Let 2015 be the year, Humanity, that we heal with love, and may this festive passage nourish your soul, strengthen your body and resolve, and ready you for the best year of your life so far.

Mentally strong people don't...
waste time feeling sorry for themselves
     give away their power
     shy away from change
waste energy on things they can't control
     waste time pleasing others
     fear taking calculated risks
     dwell on the past

     resent other people's success
     give up after failure
     fear alone time

Winter Solstice is Sunday, December 21 at 4:03 PM MST (Mountain Standard Time) followed by the New Moon at 6:35 PM MST.

This is a uniquely powerful time and because the solstice and the New Moon fall on the same day, it is truly a time to say goodbye to the old and to anchor something new. We are feeling some new influences sliding in, the most prominent being a focus on wanting to be more creative in life and in everything we do. So in your work with RESPONSIBILITY and OPPORTUNITY, be open to infusing it with creativity and the inspiration that creativity brings. Spend some time imagining outside the box and allowing new ideas and expansive intentions to guide you in writing some new intentions and goals for yourself.

One of the important opportunities of this solstice and new moon is to work on releasing all disappointments, regrets and dissatisfactions from the past year. These energies only hold you hostage and keep you from moving forward into a beautiful transition and new opportunities. So work on releasing the old, whatever it is, and MOVE ON into the NEW. This is such a great chance for a powerful re-set, so don’t waste it , use it! The solstice is always good time to do a ritual around releasing the old.

Science vs. Art - You don't have to pick sides

“Please don’t make the mistake of thinking the arts and sciences are at odds with one another. That is a recent, stupid, and damaging idea. You don’t have to be unscientific to make beautiful art, to write beautiful things.

If you need proof: Twain, Adams, Vonnegut, McEwen, Sagan, Shakespeare, Dickens. For a start.

You don’t need to be superstitious to be a poet. You don’t need to hate GM technology to care about the beauty of the planet. You don’t have to claim a soul to promote compassion.

Science is not a body of knowledge nor a system of belief; it is just a term which describes humankind’s incremental acquisition of understanding through observation...”

     ~ Tim Minchin

NEW MOON! Sunday, December 21, 2014 ~ Astro Twins

On Sunday, December 21, el sol switches it up, moving into traditional, goal-oriented Capricorn until January 20, 2015. For the third month in a row, the Sun’s change of guard is accompanied by a new moon — a powerful way to announce its presence indeed!

The Sun governs the self, identity and ego and shapes how we express ourselves in the world. In Capricorn it gives us a “high pro glow.” We want our most successful sides to shine and we are inspired to climb higher and higher towards our biggest goals.

New moons herald fresh beginnings, so why wait until January 1 to make those resolutions? Sunday, December 21 is a potent day for visualizing success and mapping out the next steps of that journey. -

Quotes of the day... 12/16/14

Isn't it your triumphs over adversity,
surprise rebounds, and stellar comebacks

Haven't you noticed that you're "wired" to succeed?
Are you suffering or adventuring?

"My life is like a... in slow motion. And as I try to live in the moment and be mindful, I realize I'm writing the script to the next scene. Is this the source of the torture of the artist? We must be inspired by nature and yet we are constantly synthesizing it, so do we ever live it? Or are we always writing it's next great fantasy? Are we playing God? Because certainly it would be foolish to think one could create something more beautiful than nature itself."

~ Lady Gaga

Quotes of the day... 12/15/14

This we know: All things are connected
like the blood that unites us.
We did not weave the web of life,
We are merely a strand in it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
     ~ Chief Seattle

If someone sits with me,

have not made him feel better
about himself and this world,
then I have missed an opportunity

Quotes of the day... 12/12/14

Even when we're not at a fork in the road,
wondering what to do
and trying to hear that inner voice,
our intuition is always there,
always reading the situation,
always trying to steer us the right way.
But can we hear it? Are we paying attention?
Are we living a life that keeps the
pathway to our intuition unblocked?
     ~ Arianna Huffington

Allowing past woes and future fears
to dominate our thoughts blocks our intuition.
Staying focused on the moment
allows our intuition to speak.
     ~ Angie Ducharme

Feeding and nurturing our intuition,
and living a life in which
we can make use of its wisdom,
is one key way to thrive, at work and in life.

The trees have it right this time of year.

They let the old dead leaves fall to the ground where they are buried in snow and turned into fertile soil for spring.

Let’s take a pulpy page from that book. Drop what no longer has life for you. It’s okay to let go and get in the buff. Those old experiences, expectations, dreams, memories and lessons will be great fertilizer for whatever you want to create in the spring.

Use this time to let your old dead leaves fall off, get naked, and get under the deep blankets of winter to reflect, replenish and rejuvenation.

Winter historically and naturally, is a time for long nights of rest, reflection and little pops of sparkling light returning to inspire the future.

Drop into the season, and let life & light unfold at it’s own pace.

Twelve Items or Less Anecdote

Yesterday afternoon at Market Basket, in the twelve items or less line, holding 4 boxes of tissues, the elderly gentleman behind me said, "I'll give you ten cents to let me cut in front of you." That was the first of a litany of jokes to follow. He asked if someone had a really bad cold (4 boxes of tissues). "What do you call someone who does not have a body, just a nose?" "What?" "Nobody knows."

I never remember jokes, and every stupid joke he told I wished I could remember to tell Mia, and I kept saying, "I wish I could remember these jokes for my niece." He said, "You'll remember them." I said, "No, I really won't. I never do."

Guess what? I remembered them :) Enjoy! (or not - haha)

"Do you know who Tigger is?" "Yes." "Why was Tigger looking in the toilet?" "I don't know." "He was looking for Pooh."

"Why did the turtle want to cross the highway?" "Why?" "To get to the Shell station."

"Do you eat fish?" "No, nothing with a face." "Do you know what a lobster is?" "Yes." "Do you know what a crab is?" "Yes." "Do you know why lobsters and crabs don't share food?" "No." "They're shell fish."

"My dog is good at math. I asked him, what is six minus six? He said nothing."

I checked out and said, "Enjoy your evening." He said "I get along much better with kids than women." "Always leave them laughing." ~ Milton Berle

I hope you had a little chuckle!

On the heels of the Winter Solstice

This is a time of year when there is not as much external light, we are moving through the darkness, having to face our fears. We can either run from them or make peace with them. They are merely sign posts along our journey.

Our fears can expand us, when we remember they have no power over us. The space between our thoughts is our power, let's choose to listen.

We need to feed what is exciting right now and follow our hearts. This is a time for us to be playful and have fun! Start dreaming, and dream big!

We have a Full Moon in Gemini on Saturday, December 6, 2014 ~ Holly Gill

It's time for change, and seeing things from a new perspective! The Full Moon on Saturday is in air sign Gemini. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and thoughts.

This Full Moon focuses on our thoughts and ways of thinking. Is it time to see things differently? A new outlook perhaps? Gemini is all about change and flexibility.

This weekend is a good time to communicate clearly, express yourself, see things in a new light and laugh more! Like every Full Moon, emotions tend to become more intense during this time, so we may need to watch what we say...before we say it!

Quotes of the day... 12/5/14

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.
Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.
It's a way of looking at life
through the wrong end of a telescope.
Which is what I do, and that enables you
to laugh at life's “realities”.
     ~ Dr. Seuss

When I examine myself and my methods of thought,
I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy
has meant more to me than any talent
for abstract, positive thinking.

If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy
can totally transform a million realities.

If you fill your mind with fear, doubt,
and unbelief in your ability to connect with,
and use the forces of Infinite Intelligence,
the law of auto-suggestion will take
this spirit of unbelief and use it as a pattern
by which your subconscious mind
will translate it into its physical equivalent.

Living Meditation ~adapted, Peter Schaller

Living meditation doesn’t mean that we can’t also make time to sit quietly each day, mind swept clean. But, practicing "living in the moment" meditation in everything, no judgment, putting no past or future on it, will almost certainly add more color, flavor, music, peace, balance, focus and smiles to our lives.

~ H. A. Dorfman

"It can hardly be a matter for surprise that our race has not succeeded in solving any large part of its most difficult problems in the first millionth part of its existence. New Moon in Sagittarius - November 22, 2014

The quality of Sagittarius, at its potential, evokes a sense of joyfulness and even exuberance. The New Moon in the lunar cycle symbolizes fresh new starts. With the New Moon in Sagittarius at 0 degrees on November 22nd, 2014, there is that same energy weaving through life experiences. The search for meaning may be strong under this new moon. The New Moon in Sagittarius prompts each of us to enjoy the adventure that is unfolding now.

The Sun and Moon unite in the fire sign of Sagittarius under this New Moon, the aim is to be conscious participants to take action to expand consciousness, joy, meaning and purpose in our lives. We have the desire to embrace diversity of life. There are many paths, ways and perspectives in life. To honor one another is to embrace diversity.

The Sun, Moon and Venus are all in this happy-go-lucky sign, Sagittarius. This suggests a fiery passion towards integrating one’s philosophy into daily experiences. It promotes self-discovery and stretching one’s understanding into new and higher dimensions of reality.

It is possible under this New Moon in Sagittarius to want to share our perspectives and truth in relationship of all kinds. Speaking your truth may be done with grace, love and respect. It does not have to be dominating or heavy-handed unless you make it so. Speaking one’s truth helps each remain aligned in integrity with the Divine. It is a lightness and freedom that helps us rise even higher.

Feeling into the New Moon in Sagittarius, what is in our lives and feel gratitude for each person, animal and thing. The vibration of gratitude is an acknowledgement of the goodness inherent in life. Here each remains in abundance consciousness rather than lack consciousness.

The theme of exploration and adventure fills up the New Moon in Sagittarius. There may be a feeling of restlessness and eagerness to embark on a new journey of some kind, big or small. What small action can be taken to let this energy start to ripple outwards?

People may certainly feel animated or wildly optimistic and even over the moon about the surprises or sudden gift(s) that appears. The New Moon in Sagittarius helps each to attune to one’s true nature as joy – no matter if it is a good day or bad day. Joyfulness is a state of consciousness, it is who you are as Soul.

During this New Moon in Sagittarius, here are two example intentions: “I AM Joy”  – “I AM Abundant.”

Joy is like a good cake;
you never know when it's coming,
but you'd better eat it when it does!
     C. JoyBell C.

Joy does not simply happen to us.
We have to choose joy
and keep choosing it every day.

When you feel a peaceful joy,

Quotes of the day... 11/11/14

Instead of spinning your wheels
asking "Why?" (which rarely helps),
try asking some variation of "Now what?"
You now have more energy to cope,
problem-solve, and otherwise deal
with whatever life throws at you.
     ~adapted, Gina DeLapa

We hang on to pain. It certainly satisfies
our unconscious need for the alleviation
of guilt through punishment.
We get to feel miserable and rotten.
The question then arises, “But for how long?”
     ~ David R. Hawkins

On a deeper level you are already complete.
When you realize that, there is a playful,
joyous energy behind what you do.
     ~Eckhart Tolle

Quotes of the day... 11/10/14

The truly humble cannot be humbled.
They are immune to humiliation.
They have nothing to defend.
There is no vulnerability and, therefore,
the truly humble do not experience
critical attacks by others. Instead,
a truly humble person sees
the critical verbalization by another person
as merely a statement
of the other person’s inner problems.
     ~ David R. Hawkins

Other people merely mirror back
our own fears and insecurities
 we are projecting onto them.
     ~ David R. Hawkins

Once we have mastery over our feelings,
our fear of life diminishes.

Quotes of the day... 11/7/14

In silence, we make room for the self-awareness
to be in control of our actions,
rather than under their control.
The break from external voices
puts us in tune to our inner voices –
and it's those inner voices that drive our actions.
Awareness leads to control.
     ~ Thai Nguyen

Practice becoming an observer of your thoughts.
The human will is strengthened
whenever we choose not to respond
to every actionable thought.

Intentional silence puts... in a state of mental reflection and disengages our intellectual mind. At that point McGonigal says to ask yourself three questions:

"If anything were possible, what would I welcome or create in my life?"

"When I'm feeling most courageous and inspired, what do I have to offer?"

"When I'm honest about how I suffer, what do I want to make peace with?"
     ~adapted, Thai Nguyen

Quotes of the day... 11/6/14

As humans, it’s imperative to be extra mindful
of our thoughts, deeds and actions,
as they easily have an impact on
the quality and depth of our lives
now and in the future.
     ~adapted, Liilamaya Liliana Galvis

Removing that critical mind
allows the imagination and positive emotions
to build a subconscious intention
and add fuel to our goals.
     ~ Thai Nguyen

We are all here to learn, one day at a time,
one breath at a time, one mistake at a time.
Enjoy change.

Bypassing Burnout

It's amazing how tuned out we become to the motor of the air-conditioner and refrigerator -- the sudden silence is a startling reprieve. Likewise, we become numb to the buzz of our technology saturated world.

Smartphone users check their device every 6.5 minutes, which works out to around 150 times a day. Silence is replaced with a cacophony of communication, and solitude is replaced with social media.

Indeed they're an endangered species: silence and solitude; yet great revelations and benefits are found in them.

Too often, our culture assigns self-worth with productivity. Whether it's asking what your country can do for you, or what you can do for your country, the question remains -- what can be done? It's a one-way ticket to burnout.

Solitude allows for a break from the tyrant of productivity. And rather than being in opposition, doing nothing helps with doing much. Promega is a company with on-the-job "third spaces" where employees are able to take solitude breaks and meditate in natural light. The health benefits have resulted in improved productivity levels for the company.

It will do the same for us!
