Science vs. Art - You don't have to pick sides

“Please don’t make the mistake of thinking the arts and sciences are at odds with one another. That is a recent, stupid, and damaging idea. You don’t have to be unscientific to make beautiful art, to write beautiful things.

If you need proof: Twain, Adams, Vonnegut, McEwen, Sagan, Shakespeare, Dickens. For a start.

You don’t need to be superstitious to be a poet. You don’t need to hate GM technology to care about the beauty of the planet. You don’t have to claim a soul to promote compassion.

Science is not a body of knowledge nor a system of belief; it is just a term which describes humankind’s incremental acquisition of understanding through observation...”

NEW MOON! Sunday, December 21, 2014 ~ Astro Twins

On Sunday, December 21, el sol switches it up, moving into traditional, goal-oriented Capricorn until January 20, 2015. For the third month in a row, the Sun’s change of guard is accompanied by a new moon — a powerful way to announce its presence indeed!

The Sun governs the self, identity and ego and shapes how we express ourselves in the world. In Capricorn it gives us a “high pro glow.” We want our most successful sides to shine and we are inspired to climb higher and higher towards our biggest goals.

New moons herald fresh beginnings, so why wait until January 1 to make those resolutions? Sunday, December 21 is a potent day for visualizing success and mapping out the next steps of that journey. -

Quotes of the day... 12/16/14

Isn't it your triumphs over adversity,
surprise rebounds, and stellar comebacks
that you look back on with the most fondness?
Haven't you noticed that you're "wired" to succeed?
Are you suffering or adventuring?
     ~adapted, Mike Dooley

"My life is like a... in slow motion. And as I try to live in the moment and be mindful, I realize I'm writing the script to the next scene. Is this the source of the torture of the artist? We must be inspired by nature and yet we are constantly synthesizing it, so do we ever live it? Or are we always writing it's next great fantasy? Are we playing God? Because certainly it would be foolish to think one could create something more beautiful than nature itself."

~ Lady Gaga

Quotes of the day... 12/15/14

This we know: All things are connected
like the blood that unites us.
We did not weave the web of life,
We are merely a strand in it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
     ~ Chief Seattle

If someone sits with me,
and I have not given his heart comfort,
have not made him feel better
about himself and this world,
then I have missed an opportunity
to improve my world.
